Keenan IM: :( or :) ? (I can’t believe I just typed that)

So: Still haven’t decided what to think about Keenan’s message-sending dispatch of Mark Smith, Eric Godard and friends on the power play last night against the Coyotes. Yes, the stars by and large played awfully poorly in the first and second — Alex Tanguay in particular, I thought, had no idea where to go and did nothing to help himself or his teammates — but gee, those guys at half-speed are going to score you more goals than Stephane Yelle’s line at 150%. You need to get through to players sometimes, sure, but points are points, and the Flames are no Red Wings right now. 3-1 losses to even a hot Phoenix team are not good.

Like I said, I haven’t decided what to think, because I haven’t dismissed the idea that a message like that reverberates for games and games and gets you more points than you lose in the process.

Thoughts?

  1. hmph.
i’d say that, if you consider that keenan’s ‘systems’ would take a bit of time to learn, and the whole ‘muscle memory’ idea would also take time to implement, early december is when the flames SHOULD have started winning. ie: i’ll give keenan the benefit of the doubt and suggest he might know what he’s doing.

also, he fucking loves mark “minutes” smith.

  2. Wow, you’ve been reduced to using emoticons… ;D

Looking back over Keenan’s record, I’m willing to accept the notion that he has a pretty good idea of what he’s doing (while I’m also willing to accept the notion that a lot of people don’t like how he does it)…

I give him the benefit of the doubt, since, as WI pointed out, the team has been coming around just when they should be under a new coach that knows what he’s doing…

Maybe he’ll even have the lines sorted out by the all-star break…

  3. i guess i’ll have to wait for a trade till you start writing again…. MAN, the two-days-in-a-row thing was a teaser !!! 🙂 x
