Good times

Flames 3 Canucks 2

It didn’t take long tonight before the morons were chanting “Flames Suck” — which, as usual, means the opposite is true.

It started with Iginla setting the tone by pounding on a Sedin and a Mitchell, the momentum of it all carrying them to a 3-0 lead. It ended with the home team coming too close for comfort, but not close enough thanks to a Craig Conroy faceoff win in the final seconds.

Kelly Hrudey just said it, and it’s true: Calgary’s back.

Four in a row on the road, three of those against playoff bound division rivals. Six in a row overall, two of those against the top two teams in the conference. The penalty kill and defensive coverage tonight was top-notch, Calgary had solid play from four lines. Brad Stuart looks like a blue-chipper, and Conroy, Iginla and Alex Tanguay look to be hard-wired to one another.

We’ve been asking for this for a while. And it’s happening at just the right time. Jim Playfair is making all the right moves, Calgary’s best players are their best players (just like Jimmy always asked for), and Miikka Kiprusoff is out-goaltendeing everyone.

Anyway, I’m obviously too excited right now to do anything but talk about how great things are, so I’ll stop now, grab a victory drink, and analyze things with a little more sanity tomorrow.

Go Flames!
